Learn more about the Barclays Payments team

I grew up in India, achieving a scholarship from the Indian Institute for Science, before moving to the UK in 2014 to complete my degree in MEng Civil Engineering and Business Management at the University of Warwick. As Academic and Careers Officer of the Warwick Engineering Society, I worked with diverse businesses to engage my peers in learning about different career opportunities – and that’s when I shifted my interest toward financial services.

After internships and summer placements at energy startups and insurance tech startups, I applied for the Barclaycard international graduate scheme. Coming from an engineering background, Barclays has really given me a platform to expand my capabilities and start applying my transferrable skills within the financial landscape.

In what I do now, I support the Head of Business Intelligence Propositions in defining our strategy and ensuring we make informed decisions around the roadmap for our new propositions. I’m involved in horizon scanning for business intelligence developments; product and proposition strategy; and proposition design, where, for instance, I work towards developing solutions for large corporates to test our hypotheses about customer needs.

Coming from an engineering background, Barclays has really given me a platform to expand my capabilities.

My responsibilities and the projects I’m involved in now have a direct impact on customers, and trigger decision-making within the bank too. It’s the perfect balance of my acquired skills and learning something new. Plus, at the same time, I get exposure to stakeholders and experts from different parts of the business to expand my network.

Apart from learning every day and interacting with people, I’ve also got the chance to bring out my personality and go above and beyond in my day-to-day work. Beyond my role in the business, I also champion mental health awareness and workplace wellness as part of the BeWell network for Barclays International, where I help organise awareness-raising events and workshops. I’m even a regular key player for the Barclays Cricket Club, who were the London Corporate Cup winners last year.
