Join us as a Professional Support Lawyer within Barclays UK (BUK) Legal. The BUK Legal team ensure the consumer banking activities of Barclays Bank UK PLC are conducted in compliance with all applicable laws rules and regulations (LRRs) and help the bank manage the legal and regulatory risks associated with those activities.

As the team’s Professional Support Lawyer and a member of the BUK Corporate Functions Legal team, you will be instrumental in helping the BUK Legal team manage legal risk by developing and implementing a laws, rules and regulations (LRRs) knowledge management strategy. You will also provide support to the BUK Legal team in advising and managing legal risk arising from new LRRs in compliance with applicable Barclays policies and standards.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • be a qualified lawyer with financial regulatory experience;
  • have an ability to navigate the FCA Handbook and PRA Rulebook and;
  • have an understanding of working in a highly regulated financial institution.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • experience of ringfencing and the appointed representative regime and/or consumer banking products and regulation
  • experience of matrix stakeholder management and briefings at a senior level

This role will be based in Glasgow.

Purpose of the role

To act as a professional support lawyer for the Barclays Bank UK (BUK) Legal team and to support the team in managing legal risk by developing and implementing a laws, rules and regulations (LRRs) knowledge management strategy aligned to the team’s objectives and supporting the team in advising and managing legal risk arising from new LLRs in compliance with applicable Barclays policies and standards. 

The BUK Legal team ensure the consumer banking activities are conducted in compliance with all appliable LRRs, and help the bank manage legal and regulatory risks associated with these activities.

Accountabilities

  • Monitoring legal and market developments and advising the team on risk, trends and key changes
  • Demonstrating, promoting and overseeing best practice for LRR knowledge capture, curation and dissemination
  • Producing analysis and updates for internal briefings, coordinating input from across the team
  • Designing and delivering and supporting team members in the preparation and delivery of training to the business
  • Leading the development and delivery of the team’s LRR plan and strategy to support stakeholder priorities
  • Collaboration with legal tech, innovation and project management teams to drive efficiencies
  • Support the capture and sharing of knowhow across teams through platforms and process improvements
  • Working closely with team members to co-ordinate Subject Matter Expertise (SME) input on deliverables to support the maintenance and development of a global LRR inventory
  • Supporting team members in ensuring that LRRs are effectively allocated to, and adequately reflected within, relevant policies, standards and controls
  • Close coordination with the Central Legal Team maintaining the global LRR inventory and with Risk and Compliance colleagues involved in the management of the legal risk framework
  • Engaging with internal and external legal colleagues, business stakeholders and second line of defence.
