I’ve only been with Barclays for four years, but in that time I’ve achieved so much. I joined as an analyst in the newly formed Corporate Credit team in Mumbai and was promoted to Assistant Vice President within a year! Since then, besides managing my own portfolio, I’ve set up the Power and Utilities Mumbai team here, which I manage, and it’s growing strongly. The journey so far has been like a Bollywood movie with its ups and downs, but I’ve had a fantastic learning experience and I’ve been supported all the way by my team in Mumbai, London and Europe and by my mentors.
Mumbai is becoming a key player in Barclays globally, and I feel privileged to be in at the start of something really special. Unlike our competitors in India, where the Indian office might not be involved in the bigger picture, we’re involved in key global strategic projects and important decision making, and that’s both challenging and exciting.
More than that, Risk at Barclays is treated as a hugely important part of all business decisions. We’re empowered to do our best work, and we’re at the centre of everything, as valued partners. It’s important to me that my work is valued, but I also need to be part of a good working culture, which we have in Barclays. We’re supported in our work and in our lives, and I truly feel that my team members and mentors at Barclays have helped me become a better version of myself. I’ve also enjoyed being able to play an active role in our citizenship agenda – I received a value award for my role in a global project with the United Nations focusing on climate change risk.
We’re doing globally important work here, and I’m proud to be part of it. And all of this in four short years!
