Discover more about the HR graduate scheme in New York

My internship gave me a 10-week opportunity to do the same type of interesting work I would encounter as a full-time graduate. My team gave me real, challenging projects and treated me as a normal member of the team. It let me experience the firm’s culture, and confirmed that it was a place where I would feel comfortable being myself. Ultimately, I accepted an offer to join as a full-time graduate in the Human Resources rotational programme.

Once on the programme, I rotated through: the Client Experience HR Business Partner team, supporting COO & Functions; the HR Business Partner team, supporting Banking Americas; then People Analytics, and finally Employee Relations. My experience on the People Analytics team gave me extensive exposure to the HR Optimisation team, while I project managed an HR-wide change management project.

This project, along with the other opportunities I had to contribute to continuous improvement efforts and HR-wide projects, made me realize my interest in focusing on this area long term. As I was rolling off the graduate program, an opportunity on the HR Optimisation team arose, so now I’m excited to be joining the team as my next career step.

I’ve found countless colleagues and career mentors who challenge me to be my best

Within Human Resources, I’ve found countless colleagues and career mentors who challenge me to be my best; to find every opportunity I can to learn and grow; to question the status quo; and to offer solutions to issues both within HR and firm-wide. I’m incredibly grateful for the peers and senior leaders who’ve spent time with me, patiently advised me, and guided my career development.

I also deeply appreciate the opportunities Barclays has given me to influence change. In all of my roles to date, I’ve been encouraged to innovate, find more efficient ways of working, and operate with a continuous improvement mind-set. I’ve been involved in everything from a small process change, to improved collaboration between teams, and a more extensive change management project. I find it so rewarding to see the fruits of hard work in partnership with my colleagues.

Moreover, my role as Co-Lead of the Firm’s New York Reverse Mentoring Program, part of the Emerge network, has afforded me the opportunity to identify challenges Barclays is facing and to facilitate discussions between senior leaders and more junior colleagues to develop solutions to these important issues. It’s inspiring to see the firm’s leaders coming to the younger generation to hear their perspectives and input!
