Applying for a new role is an important step in your career. This is your chance to really show us what you’re like and how your talents can make a difference at Barclays. So, we’re supporting you by making our application and assessment processes simple to follow. Here, you can read all about what to expect, we’re looking forward to meeting you.

We aim for an inclusive work environment where everyone can reach their full potential. If you require any adjustments to our recruitment process, please let us know as part of your application.

While the application process depends on the role, there are some constants.

Step 1 – Your application

You’ll need to start by completing an online application form, where we’ll ask about your contact details, education and work experience. You’ll also need to upload your CV, so it’s a good idea to have this ready.

If you want to hear more about the adjustments we can provide during the application process, please visit our adjustments to the recruitment process page.

Step 2 – Your assessment

If your application is successful, we’ll invite you to complete a number of online assessments or take part in a telephone interview.

Our online assessments are carefully designed to see how you align to our Barclays Values and ways of working, and if you have what it takes to be successful in the role. They’ll also give you an idea of what the role involves. They can take up to an hour, and you’ll always have the opportunity to practice first. Meeting the minimum score in the online assessment is the minimum criteria for the job. You can do this on any type of device, such as your mobile phones or tablet. You'll receive full instructions via email about the structure and timings of the assessments and whether they need to be completed in one sitting, as well as hints and tips for success on these assessments. You will also get the opportunity to access practice tests which we would recommend completing before the assessments.

Our telephone interviews give us the opportunity to find out more about your experience and technical skills for the role, and give you the chance to ask us questions. They usually last about half an hour.

Step 3 – Your interview

If you’re successful in your telephone interview or assessment, we’ll invite you to a face-to-face or virtual interview. We’ll give you some options for times and dates and ask you to choose the one that suits you.

We’ll be keen to get further insight into why you want the role, your alignment to our Values and ways of working, and how you demonstrate the key skills and behaviours (competencies) you’ll need to do well here.

To find more information on Barclays competencies, download the competency document relevant to the type of role you are interested in here:

Candidate Competency Guide (BA1 – BA4) (PDF 75KB)
Candidate Competency Guide (AVP – VP) (PDF 80KB)
Candidate Competency Guide (Director) (PDF 75KB)
Candidate Competency Guide (MD) (PDF 100KB)

At your interview, you can demonstrate these core competencies by giving us examples of how you’ve used these skills in the past. This tells if you have the potential to apply these skills in a role with us.

Interviews for some roles might involve additional assessments - for example, role plays, case studies and presentations. We’ll only assess skills that are relevant to the role, and we'll give you a full brief beforehand that will tell you what’s going to happen.

What to bring to your interview

To help us to move your application forward quickly, bring supporting documents to your interview. You'll need your government issued identification (which confirms your legal right to work) as well as a proof of residency. Download our what to bring checklist (PDF 254KB).

Step 4 – Next steps

If youve been successful at interview, well ask for some additional information so that you can complete our screening process. Well tell you more about the screening process during the application process, as the way it works depends on your location.
