What to expect

Our two-year Markets Expert Programme focuses on helping you develop specialist expertise in your chosen discipline. Following intensive training, you’ll go straight into a sales, trading or structuring role on a specific desk, where you’ll rapidly build up your knowledge of global markets, as well as your quantitative and analytical skills, through live work including analysing data and developing solutions, monitoring markets and formulating trade ideas, and attending meetings with clients and colleagues. You’ll interact closely with our Legal, Compliance and Quantitative business areas. And you’ll quickly build professional acumen, a great internal network, and a solid understanding of different roles within the bank. From early on, you’ll be exposed to everything from product pricing to proprietary Index Development and managing risk of the team’s trading books.

How you’ll develop

This is job-based, hands-on training, as you build your skills on live projects that really matter. You’ll receive bespoke support and coaching from the very best in the Markets business: a line manager who wants you to succeed, and a talent coach who’ll be focused on your development. Together, they’ll help you to explore, develop and achieve mastery. And we’ll encourage you to learn, at your own pace, all the skills and techniques you need to thrive in the world of Markets at Barclays. Our vast suite of learning materials will always be at your fingertips. You’ll be surrounded by colleagues you can share with and learn from. You’ll gain membership to our global graduate network, with exclusive access to content, events and forums to support you and help you develop. And you’ll get the opportunity to have an impact on the communities in which we live and work.

By the end of your programme you’ll have gained all the understanding and skills you need to move into a fulfilling permanent role.
