Our two-year Markets Expert Programme focuses on helping you develop specialist expertise in your chosen discipline. Following intensive training, you’ll go straight into a sales, trading or structuring role on a specific desk, where you’ll rapidly build up your knowledge of global markets, as well as your quantitative and analytical skills, through live work including analysing data and developing solutions, monitoring markets and formulating trade ideas, and attending meetings with clients and colleagues. You’ll interact closely with our Legal, Compliance and Quantitative business areas. And you’ll quickly build professional acumen, a great internal network, and a solid understanding of different roles within the bank. From early on, you’ll be exposed to everything from product pricing to proprietary Index Development and managing risk of the team’s trading books.

Logical problem-solvers do well here. You’ll either have completed or be in your final year of a postgraduate qualification of a Masters or higher, in a technical discipline such as Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Quantitative Finance, Economics, Statistics, Stochastic Calculus, Computer Science, or other STEM subjects, with strong programming skills, particularly Java, C++, or Python. You’ll be curious and creative, tech-savvy and adaptable. You’ll be great at communicating and collaborating, as well as competitive but caring. Our two-year Research Expert Programme focuses on helping you develop specialist expertise in investment research. After this, you’ll go straight into the credit research team, working with senior analysts and contributing insights and ideas to investment theses and reports. Working on live projects, you’ll find yourself analysing macro industry trends, gathering data, building models and databases and developing and delivering marketing materials for clients. In time, you’ll find yourself presenting your ideas to colleagues as well as clients.

With a Masters or PhD in a technical discipline such as Finance, Econometrics or Operations Research, you must have strong quantitative skills, including statistics and time series analysis. Our quants are highly specialised modellers and developers responsible for researching, innovating, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting all quantitative models used for valuation and risk management across all asset classes. The ability to articulate your ideas will be crucial as you work closely with business partners to develop models and tools, and perform analyses to help guide business decisions, manage risk, formulate and test quantitative strategies, and drive revenue generation and capital utilisation. Joining a group that partners with traders and risk managers across the bank, you’ll gain the widest exposure to a variety of modelling techniques and instruments to help drive business strategy.
