Within Compliance, the Financial Crime function provides capabilities to execute against Transaction Monitoring (TM) requirements. The Financial Crime TM team is responsible for the ownership and configuration of automated TM systems to detect unusual behaviour in line with money laundering regulations globally. The Financial Crime TM team works with stakeholders to ensure service delivery is effective whist upholding the function’s governance requirements.

The role holder will support the Head of TM Risk and Governance in driving the overall end-end-to-end strategy and adherence to TM processes and controls via governance oversight, supporting the continued enhancement of risk management across Barclays’ anti-money laundering (AML) controls globally.

Within Financial Crime TM, the TM Risk and Governance team focuses on supporting the wider function in its aim to provide TM services across Barclays UK and Barclays Bank PLC businesses and geographies. The role holder will work with colleagues across TM, Business, Operations, Technology, and Financial Crime to develop, implement and optimise risk and governance solutions and capabilities.

To be successful in the TM Risk and Governance team, you should have:

  • Experience with TM Risk Assessments

  • Experience with Governance forums

  • The ability to analyse and understand Transaction Monitoring issues and ensure they are managed via robust governance and communication

The role is based in Glasgow.

Purpose of the role

To assess the integrity and effectiveness of the banks internal control framework to support the mitigation of risk and protection of the banks operational, financial, and reputational risk.  

Accountabilities

  • Collaboration with various stakeholders across the bank and business units to improve overall control effectiveness through detailed documentation of control assessments, procedures, and findings.
  • Identification and investigation of potential weaknesses and issues within internal controls to promote continuous improvement and risk mitigation aligned to the bank’s control framework, prioritised by its severity to disrupt bank operations.
  • Development of reports to communicate key findings from risk assessment including control weaknesses and recommendations to control owners, senior management, and other stakeholders.
  • Execution of reviews to determine the effectiveness of the bank's internal controls framework aligned to established and evolving policies, regulation, and best practice.
  • Implementation of adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and set appropriate methodology of assessing controls against the Controls Framework.
