Corporate Banking sits within Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) and provides client coverage and origination of Corporate banking products to clients generally with £6.5m turnover and upwards. The business is organized around segments being Mid-Corporate, Large Corporate, Real Estate and Public Sector. We support clients both headquartered in the UK and global corporates with their subsidiaries in the UK and within jurisdictions that meet cross border banking guidelines.
While this role sits directly within the Corporate Bank, the expectation is that, from a regional perspective, it will interact with all Barclays divisions and help to promote and foster a joined-up ‘One Barclays’ face to market.
CONTEXT:
Barclays operates a number of teams across the North West, facing off to SMEs/Corporates. These teams tend to focus on specific sizes or industry sectors, with different report lines into Head Office which can mean we lose the opportunity to step back and present a more holistic approach to the regional market.
The lack of a dedicated regional leader has highlighted the need for a local figurehead to represent Barclays across the region. This role has been created to address that gap, providing leadership, connectivity, and a more holistic approach to market engagement.
OBJECTIVE:
Establish and chair a monthly internal regional board/forum with attendance and input from colleagues across the bank. This will help to coordinate Barclays commercial/corporate activities across Manchester, ensuring the sum of day-to-day activity through various segments is greater than the individual parts.
Act as an external figurehead and improve connectivity with key business influencers - MPs, Local Authorities, Advisors, regional business groups such as Chambers of Commerce etc, ensuring a One Barclays approach is portrayed.
Work closely with the regional Head of External Affairs and the wider Public Policy and Corporate Responsibility (PPCR) team.
Raise the profile of our activities in the region and ensure our marketing approach is joined up across all segments/industries.
Improve internal intelligence sharing, marketing approach and talent planning.
Working closely with national Segment/Industry heads who will retain report lines of their local teams.
Act as the regional lead for profile-building networking events and nationally coordinated activity such as the Business Prosperity Index.
Personally identify commercial opportunities through own network - both specific clients and areas of the market we may be under serving.
CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE:
Extensive leadership experience ideally gained within a Corporate environment within the region.
Demonstrated success in managing large P&L portfolios, showing tangible results in revenue growth and service standards.
Strong strategic thinking capabilities to align with Barclays Corporate banking vision, focusing on innovation, client-centric growth and digital transformation.
Proven track record in building and nurturing high-level corporate relationships in Manchester & the North West, working at board or C-suite level and with advisory networks.
Comprehensive understanding of UK regulatory requirements and economic trends affecting Corporate banking clients.
Proven ability to lead and influence both directly and through matrix structures. Able to build and communicate compelling visions and develop colleagues for success
Purpose of the role
To maximise the growth and success of UK corporate banking. Working collaboratively with colleagues and specialist partners across the group. Leading a team to achieve agreed goals, maximising market opportunity and external brand plus driving income growth, market share growth, through leveraging industry expertise, focus and understanding.
