Internal Audit AVP - Technology

The Global Payments audit team is responsible for auditing both the Global Payments Operations and Global Payments Technology areas within the bank.  These represent a group wide function responsible for processing domestic, regional and international payments, cash management processing with related pricing and billing, and providing the Group core payment processing, Swift messaging infrastructure and messaging gateways to global schemes.   Because the audit team covers both operations and technology (including coverage of payment applications), the role requires flexibility in terms of covering both operations and technology controls depending on the scope of assignments.

­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Overall purpose of role

You’ll be working closely with the Barclays Internal Audit (BIA) Global Payments Audit Owners to ensure that audits are delivered on time and in line with methodology. This will include assessing risks and controls, performing audit testing, and discussing the results with your stakeholders. You’ll also contribute to our continuous monitoring work to make sure that BIA and the business is up to speed on the latest developments in the internal and external environment.

To achieve these goals, you will work collaboratively with others in BIA, while developing strong client relationships which are independent and be seen as a respected voice. This will help to support the delivery of the audit plan and assessment and reporting on the effectiveness of the operations control environment to the Barclays Board Audit Committee. 

Key skills required for this role include:

• Experience in risk-based auditing or risk/control activities, including technology controls.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to negotiate complex and challenging conversations.
• Strong data analytics skills to identify opportunities on audits and drive the proof-of-concept requirements for the testing.
• Critical thinking mindset, able to scope an audit, raise issues and identify ways to improve the process.
• Strong communications skills, excellent attention to detail.
• Enthusiastic team player and able to work independently and as part of a team to achieve team objectives.

Other highly valued skills include:

• A professional qualification relevant to Audit/Technology & Information Risk Management (e.g. CIA, CISA, CISM, CISSP) or willing to undertake one.
• Experience in cyber security, resiliency, infrastructure platforms, artificial intelligence. 
• Good understanding of payments processing.
• Risk and control experience in the financial services sector.

Purpose of the role

To support the development of audits aligned to the bank’s standards and objectives by working collaboratively with colleagues, providing accurate information and recommendations, and complying with policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

• Audit development and delivery support, including financial statements, accounting practices, operational processes, IT systems and risk management.
• Identification of operational risks to support the delivery of the Barclays Internal Audit (BIA) Audit Plan through risk assessments.
• Assessment of internal control effectiveness and their capability to identify and mitigate risk aligned to regulatory requirements.
• Communication of key findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including the Audit Owner, senior managers and directors.
• Identification of regulatory news and industry trends/developments to provide timely insight and recommendations for best practice.
