Business Development Manager | Barclays | London

Barclays Private Bank is looking for a highly motivated Business Development Manager (BDM) to join our London team. The role is central to driving and generating new client opportunities, focusing on High Net Worth (HNW), Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW), and Family Office clients. You will play a key part in identifying, developing, and pursuing prospects through both cold origination and warm referrals, ensuring a sustainable pipeline of future opportunities for the Private Bank.

In this role, you will work closely with Private Bankers and specialist investment and wealth teams to turn market insight into actionable strategies. You will leverage internal and external data sources, conduct research and analysis, and develop approaches to target individuals around personal liquidity events such as M&A transactions. Additionally, you will support governance and reporting, manage pipeline activity using CRM systems, and act as a representative of the Private Bank to strengthen relationships with internal stakeholders and external Key Business Introducers (KBIs).

This is a high-impact position requiring proactive business development, strong analytical capability, excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate insight into strategy that drives client acquisition, retention, and growth.


Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience in origination, business development, and client targeting.
  • Track record of developing new relationships from cold or standing-start.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills; proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in high-volume proactive outreach to cold prospects through a variety of channels, with a focus on generating new business opportunities and expanding market presence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to present complex investment solutions clearly and compellingly.
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills.
  • Organised, methodical, and disciplined in following up with new prospects and KBIs.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative.


Desirable Criteria

  • Extensive experience in Banking, Business Development, M&A Origination, or Recruitment.
  • Understanding of Barclays’ investment proposition and/or Private Banking, Wealth Management, Private Equity, or M&A.
  • Strong interest in financial markets and the macroeconomic environment.
  • Awareness of the M&A ecosystem in your location.
  • Ability to create materials and present to a broad audience of stakeholders and business partners.
  • Preferred 4–6 years’ experience in Banking, Origination, Research, or Business Development.

This role is based in London.

Purpose of the role

To identify and capitalise on business opportunities, expansion of the customer base, relationship management, and driving of revenue growth.  

Accountabilities

  • Execution of market research and analysis to support the identification of potential opportunities, market trends, and customer needs, to develop strategies for business growth.
  • Identification of leads through various channels such as networking, referrals, cold calling, and attending industry events.
  • Management of existing client relationships to understand their needs and identify opportunities for cross-selling or upselling banking products and services.
  • Development and execution of strategies to acquire new business and expand the customer base, including preparation of proposals, presentations, and negotiation of contracts.
  • Collaboration with product managers, credit analysts, product specialists, operations, and other internal stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of products and services to clients.
  • Forecasting of sales targets and tracking progress against goals, including regular reports on business development activities, pipeline status, and sales performance to management.
  • Contribution to the development of business development strategies and initiatives to drive revenue growth and achieve business objectives.
