Join us as a Data Protection Officer in our Private Banking team based in Monaco.

This is a new position at Barclays and is a key governance and compliance role, responsible for overseeing the bank's data protection strategy and ensuring adherence to regulations and the Data Protection Act. The Data Protection Officer provides strategic and practical guidance, manages regulatory interactions, and fosters a culture of data privacy.

In this role you will be working closely with the local regulator in Monaco – APDP, ensuring the organization adheres to data protection laws and regulations.

Essential skills:

  • Good knowledge of local regulations
  • Ability to manage relationships with regulator
  • Previous experience working as a Data Protection Officer within the local market
  • Fluent French and English speaker

Desirable skills:

  • Previous experience working as a Data Protection Officer within an International Bank
  • Previous experience working with APDP
  • Experience within cyber or compliance

Purpose of the role

A Data Privacy Officer (DPO) is responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection laws and managing data privacy risks within an organization. The DPO will act as the primary point of contact between the organization and data protection authorities, addressing any inquiries or compliance issues.

The DPO will also be in charge to implement data quality process and procedures, ensuring that data is reliable and trustworthy, then extract actionable insights from it to help the organisation improve its operation, and optimise resources. 

Accountabilities

  • Investigation and analysis of data issues related to quality, lineage, controls, and authoritative source identification.
  • Execution of data cleansing and transformation tasks to prepare data for analysis.
  • Designing and building data pipelines to automate data movement and processing.
  • Development and application of advanced analytical techniques, including machine learning and AI, to solve complex business problems.
  • Documentation of data quality findings and recommendations for improvement.
  • Compliance Management: Ensure the organization adheres to data protection laws and regulations, especially Monaco Law n° 1.565 of 3 December 2024 on personal data protection  This includes conducting privacy assessments and audits.
  • Policy Development: Develop and implement data privacy policies and procedures to safeguard personal data and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Training and Awareness: Educate employees about data privacy practices and compliance requirements through training sessions and workshops.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential data privacy risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Liaison with Authorities: Act as the primary point of contact between the organization and data protection authorities, addressing any inquiries or compliance issues.
  • Data Processing Records: Maintain records of all data processing activities conducted by the organization, ensuring transparency and accountability. Implement and update a local Data Treatment Register.
  • Incident Management: Oversee the response to data breaches or privacy incidents, including conducting impact assessments and notifying relevant authorities as required.
  • Data quality Assessment: Implement data quality process and procedures, ensuring that data is reliable and trustworthy, especially with regards to regulatory reporting
