AVP, Data Scientist

Barclays Capital Inc. seeks AVP, Data Scientist in New York, NY (multiple positions available):

1.         Develop and apply mathematical and statistical theory and methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize numerical data to provide usable information for Barclays Research Data Science team.

2.Use alternative data and data science methods to inform financial research collaboratively with finance domain experts.

3. Work on longer-term projects to improve the team’s capabilities, such as developing Natural Language Processing tools on text, innovating new bias adjustment methods, among others.

4.Onboard new data sets and write software based on Objected oriented programming using Python to make them usable.

5. Inform analysis designs, especially about causal and statistical inference, and analyze bias in observational data, including the basics of causal inference and selection bias adjustment.

6.Apply Machine Learning (ML) methods to improve research deliverables and make research process more efficient.

7. Perform data pipelining and automation using PySpark on large data sets and SQL for data extraction via cloud computing platform, including AWS or GCP.

8. Apply Quantitative finance to improve modeling accuracy.

9. Publish data-driven research reports with senior analysts.

10. May telecommute.

Salary / Rate Minimum/yr: $172,750 per year

Salary / Rate Maximum/yr: $175K per year

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above include only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

Purpose of the role

To use innovative data analytics and machine learning techniques to extract valuable insights from the bank's data reserves, leveraging these insights to inform strategic decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and drive innovation across the organisation. 

Accountabilities

• Identification, collection, extraction of data from various sources, including internal and external sources.
• Performing data cleaning, wrangling, and transformation to ensure its quality and suitability for analysis.
• Development and maintenance of efficient data pipelines for automated data acquisition and processing.
• Design and conduct of statistical and machine learning models to analyse patterns, trends, and relationships in the data.
• Development and implementation of predictive models to forecast future outcomes and identify potential risks and opportunities.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to seek out opportunities to add value from data through Data Science.
