In this role, you will be part of a high-impact global group ensuring time-critical Sustainability Enhanced Due Diligence is conducted on clients and transactions in alignment with Barclays’ sustainability commitments and compliance standards. As a key member of this team, you’ll combine your sustainability experience and financial services knowledge to assess highly detailed, multi-dimensional sustainability issues and strengthen client controls frameworks. You will be at the intersection of risk management, sustainability strategy, and client due diligence, supporting the bank’s transition toward a more sustainable financial system.

To be successful as an IB Sustainability Client Controls and Due Diligence AVP, you should have:

  • Experience in sustainability, ESG policy development, or a related field

  • Financial Services or Consultancy background

  • Experience in conducting due diligence, particularly in assessing sustainability and human rights compliance

  • Research skills with the ability to gather and assess data effectively

  • An inquisitive and investigative mindset, with the ability to identify key insights and communicate these effectively with senior stakeholders

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Knowledge of environmental and social impact assessment methodologies

  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance standards related to Sustainability

  • Considerable people skills to engage effectively with senior bankers and other stakeholders

  • Staying resilient and guided by principles when crafting strategies in complex situations

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role is located in New York, New York.

Minimum Salary: $110,000

Maximum Salary: $145,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

Purpose of the role

To assess the integrity and effectiveness of the banks internal control framework to support the mitigation of risk and protection of the banks operational, financial, and reputational risk.  

Accountabilities

  • Knowledge of business areas, products, processes and platforms to be able to assess risk
  • Collaboration with various stakeholders across the bank and business units to improve overall control effectiveness through detailed documentation of control assessments, procedures, and findings.
  • Identification and investigation of potential weaknesses and issues within internal controls to promote continuous improvement and risk mitigation aligned to the bank’s control framework, prioritised by its severity to disrupt bank operations.
  • Development of reports to communicate key findings from risk assessment including control weaknesses and recommendations to control owners, senior management, and other stakeholders.
  • Execution of reviews to determine the effectiveness of the bank's internal controls framework aligned to established and evolving policies, regulation, and best practice.
  • Implementation of adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and set appropriate methodology of assessing controls against the Controls Framework.
