Lead Engineer
Northampton


As a Barclays Lead Engineer, you will have a unique chance to be leading great engineering across our new platform services and products. This will be an exciting opportunity for an experienced technologist, with a solid understanding of agile delivery methodologies and DevOps and software quality metrics to drive the delivery of our core cloud-based platform which is used by multiple client facing applications.

What will you be doing?

• Owning the technical development of a key, customer facing service which forms a critical part of our Digital Transformation in the Corporate Bank
• Being a technical leader to the wider engineering team as we build the next generation of customer facing applications
• Playing a key part in designing and engineering our new, real-time streaming applications and APIs as part of our digital transformation
• Using your expertise and experience delivering event-driven cloud- and container- hosted microservices using a Spring based stack to progress the next set of developers in our team
• Managing partnership effectively with line of business and technology stakeholders to successfully deliver business outcomes
• Creating opportunities and experiences through which team members can improve their skills and capabilities
• Coaching and supporting team members to develop their technology skillsets and grow as engineers; leading by example to promote trust and respect in all relationships

What we’re looking for:
• Deep knowledge of software engineering using JVM based languages and frameworks 
• In-depth knowledge and experience in at least one of: (AWS /OpenShift etc), enterprise application programming, distributed systems, databases and Kubernetes
• Experience using and good grasp of Continuous Integration /Continuous Delivery concepts (CI / CD) and also should be aware of CI tools like Jenkins/Gitlab
• Solid understanding of Kafka fundamentals, including brokers, Zookeeper, connectors and KSQL


Skills that will help you in the role:
• Exposure to DDD and frameworks used to deliver applications using this approach
• Ability to mentor and coach colleagues in the creation of modern, event-based applications
• Experience in developing technology strategy for critical applications, inputting into architecture roadmaps and design


Where will you be working?
Northampton was the birthplace of Barclaycard in 1966 and we've been based in Pavilion Drive since the building opened in 1997. This state-of-the art energy efficient building holds up to 2,500 staff. The office location is perfect for travel from the midlands and London alike as we are based just off the A45, it is easily accessible by both car and bus routes.
