Regulatory Relations
A centre of excellence in the Public Policy & Corporate Responsibility function, the Regulatory Relations group functions as the single point of contact for all of Barclays’ regulators globally. Our primary objective is to achieve improved relationships with our regulators by providing a common and consistent framework for regulatory engagements internally and externally. This allows Barclays to engage in a proactive and strategic dialogue with its regulators in addition to its normal supervisory interaction.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director to lead our Regulatory Relations presence in Paris, with a focus on owning and managing Barclays’ relationships with key European regulators, including the ECB, SSM Joint Supervisory Teams (JSTs), ACPR, AMF and other relevant national authorities. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in prudential supervision, particularly in examinations, onsite inspections, thematic reviews and the ongoing SSM process. As the senior Regulatory Relations representative in Paris, this leader will drive high‑quality regulatory engagement, ensure supervisors have timely access to the right stakeholders and materials, and act as a trusted adviser to senior business and functional leaders. The individual will shape strategy for interactions with European regulators, anticipate supervisory priorities, and ensure consistent, accurate tracking of requests, issues and commitments. This is a critical leadership role requiring exceptional judgement, strong communication skills, and the ability to operate with autonomy in a complex, highly regulated environment.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Broad experience working for/with financial services business and of the European financial services regulatory environment.
  • Experience of dealing with regulators, possibly gained through working in a regulator or financial services areas of a professional services firm.
  • Excellent communication skills - spoken and written and an ability to explain complex regulatory issues and topics at a non-technical level.
  • High levels of initiative, an ability to anticipate and solve problems and work effectively within a matrix environment.
  • An ability to monitor and evaluate regulatory relationships, ensuring timely advice, escalation, and execution where remedial action is required.
  • Strong coordination and organisation skills and ability to multi-task and turnaround requests quickly under pressure.
  • Excellent team player who reflects the Barclays Mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience, gained by working in a bank or through working in a regulator or financial services firm.
  • Someone who is highly motivated and wants to work in a successful team.
  • An interest in and awareness in regulators and regulation more generally.
  • Ability to prioritise conflicting work demands.

Knowledge and Expertise

  • Technical understanding of financial regulation, with a focus on investment and commercial banking.
  • Experience acting in an advisory capacity to senior leadership.
  • Experience in internal and external stakeholder engagement, including building bridges where none previously existed and pushing back on boundaries when required.
  • Experience with industry associations and forums in a regulatory/financial services context.
  • Ability to manage priorities and expectations accordingly.
  • Demonstrated business acumen.
