Director - Wholesale Lending (Asia)

• Accountable for Engineering delivery and control environment for ACBS and Loan IQ for the Asia Pacific region and also Regional Lead for the Global Lending Platform

• Accountable for timely and high-quality delivery of the strategic platform for Mumbai Branch, GIFT City, UAE, KSH, Singapore, China, Taiwan, HK and Australia

• Accountable for ensuring workforce in India accepts knowledge transfer from global teams and scale the function

• Owning and contributing to the architectural and delivery roadmap for the Asia Pacific region for the wholesale lending platform

• Accountable for building and executing technical solutions in line with the published roadmaps

• Accountable for implementing Engineering Excellence via Dev Ops improvements for the Wholesale Lending Platform such as through E2E GitLab Adoption, adoption of Gen AI engineering capabilities, Agentic AI development and test capabilities

• Accountable for E2E Development, Testing and Implementation of solutions for the Wholesale Lending Platform within Asia Pacific region

• Partners with the Lending & Portfolio Management business, Wholesale Lending Operations team in India across locations (Noida, Chennai) and global locations

• Partners with Wholesale Lending Platform leads across Global Locations to ensure both 24X7X365 (Follow The Sun) support and also engineering efficiencies

• Accountable for driving cost efficiencies for the global platform in partnership with the global leads

• Accountable for the control environment for the platform infrastructure and to ensure timely technology debt remediation, meeting all Cyber KRIs and also proactively identifying operational risks and remediating them in a timely manner

• Accountable for high quality service introduction to the Service Management functions. Partnership with GTSM for incident and problem management.

• Accountable for production stability and infrastructure stability for the Global Lending Platform

• Senior stakeholder management capabilities as the role will faceoff to India CEO , India COO, India CCO, relevant CFO, CROs and  various  Cxx in the Asia Pacific Region

Skillset – Experienced Engineering Lead with over 20 years of expertise in Java and Data technologies. Demonstrated leadership in managing large-scale global transformation initiatives and delivering engineering excellence. Possesses strong execution capabilities and is recognized for effective senior stakeholder management as well as successful project delivery. Familiarity with Barclays Strategic Finance/SIP Technical Architecture would be considered an added advantage.

Purpose of the role

To  lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives. 

Accountabilities

• Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
• Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
• Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
• Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
• Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

Director Expectations

• To manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide..
• They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
• Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
• Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
• Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
• Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
• Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
