Network Planning & Inventory is a new engineering team within the newly formed Network OSS & Tools functional unit in the Network Product domain at Barclays. The Network Planning & Inventory Engineering team is responsible for the design, build and run of network services planning, Network-as-a-Service exposure, real-time inventory (inventory, discovery & reconciliation) and management solutions capabilities for plan and build of the Barclays Global Network.

To be successful in this role, you should have below skills:

  • Experience exposing Network 'topology and state' as a Digital Twin platform, building overlay solutions using open-source tooling (netbox or similar), no-sql/graph databases and streaming telemetry.

  • Expert level Programming expertise in one of the high-level languages like Python, Java, Golang and NetDevOps automation and AI engineering (GenAI/Agentic AI). Proficient in designing and developing APIs with a thorough understanding of RESTful principles and authentication mechanisms. Capable of leading API strategy, development, and integration.

  • Skilled in Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment practices and familiar with GitHub workflows. Demonstrated experience in automating build, test, and deployment pipelines to streamline development processes. Monitoring and Observability - logging/tracing and alerting with knowledge of SRE integrations into opensource tooling like grafana/ELK etc.

Some other highly valued skills may include below:

  • Experience with containerization using Docker and designing microservices architecture. The ability to architect, deploy, and manage scalable and resilient systems.

  • Expertise in Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud technologies (DC, AWS, Azure, GCP etc) and across broad Network domains (physical and wireless) - WAN/SD-WAN/LAN/WLAN etc.

  • Extensive experience in the design, analysis, and optimization of algorithms. The candidate should have a knack for enhancing performance and efficiency in software solutions.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
