A fantastic opportunity to work in the Manufacturing, Transport & Logistics (‘MTL’), industry team within the Large Corporate segment of UK Corporate Banking.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of senior bankers focused on the MTL sector based in Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester reporting to the Head of MTL. The successful candidate will be required to travel regularly across their region.

The MTL sector and client base is diverse and ranges from national and international transport and logistics firms to a broad range of manufacturers from aerospace & defence to electronics, food and drink, pharmaceuticals, automotive, engineering, metals, paper & packaging and chemicals.

As a senior member of the MTL leadership team the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering against the key strategic goals of the business including exceeding P&L targets, securing balance sheet growth, increasing market share, enhancing client satisfaction, maintenance of a strong controls environment as well as coaching & developing their team.

As a relationship bank with a deep franchise, the role holder will need to deliver the whole of Barclays across debt, cash management, transactional banking and beyond. The candidate should have proven track record of leading teams managing high value clients and coordinating multi-stakeholder relationships particularly in relation to funding, treasury and risk management

The candidate will need to have or be able build a strong network across region, directly with clients, advisors and industry bodies.  A business development mindset is essential. The successful candidate will also have lead responsibility for our External Engagement across the Midlands Corporate Finance community.

Purpose of the role

To develop the strategic direction for relationship teams, including the implementation of up to date methodologies and processes. 

Accountabilities

  • Management of relationship teams, including oversight of colleagues and their performance, implementation of goals and objectives, oversight of efficiency and effectiveness.  .
  • Development and maintenance of strong relationships with the broader Barclays group to promote seamless working across all channels and segments and to support an integrated business planning process.
  • Management of all risk aspects including conduct and credit risk, ensuring all team members are fully compliant to enhance great customer outcomes.
  • Monitoring the financial performance of relationship teams, including revenue, profitability, and cost control.
  • Conducting thorough market research to understand client needs, market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to identify growth opportunities.
  • Excellent service delivery to customers, consistently meeting their ongoing needs, while operating to required levels of cost.
  • Actively promote a culture of greater diversity and inclusion plus develop talent and succession within the team.
  • Development of strategic direction for relationship teams, including the implementation of up to date methodologies and processes.

Director Expectations

  • To manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide..
  • They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. Or for an individual contributor, they lead organisation wide projects and act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross functionally. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions..
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
