Join us as a Lead Java Developer in Private Bank & Wealth Management and contribute to the Investments Transformation Program, a strategic effort to modernize the technologies supporting our front office.

As part of a major transformation program, you will design and develop services connecting our complex estate to a market-leading financial advisory platform, while adopting modern engineering practices to simplify our technology stack and improve resilience, scalability, observability, and delivery capability.

You will help establish a sustainable technology foundation built on modern platforms, strong governance, and private cloud technologies.

To be successful as a Lead Java Developer, you should have the following essential skills:


  • Ample experience in Java 21–25 development, delivering scalable, high-performance enterprise applications.
  • Validated expertise in Spring Boot 4.x, REST APIs, and Microservices, designing and implementing modern cloud-native solutions.
  • Ample understanding of integration patterns—API design, data transformation pipelines, and message-based architectures.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve multi-faceted technical.

Some other highly valued skills may include:


  • Experience with or a strong interest in AI-assisted programming, code generation tools, and Agentic AI — we see these as core to how we will deliver software going forward.
  • Ample experience with GitLab CI/CD, Maven/Gradle, and automated testing, enabling efficient software delivery and high-quality code standards.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes, Docker, and containerization, building and managing scalable, cloud-native applications.

This role will be based in our Glasgow office.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 


Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
