Senior Java Developer

Join us as a Senior Software Engineer Lead at Barclays, where you will bring to life a new Digital Platform capability by transforming and modernising our cash settlement platform to build a market-leading digital offering with trader and middle office experience at its heart. This is an exciting and key role where you will adopt a Product scratch building mindset, to truly hear the customer, business and technical challenges and needs, to support the Adoption and build of the new technology into the multiple lines of business alongside writing code in Java. Your main day to day is to work with the lines of business and bring to life their needs through solutions and realising these through rapid implementation and proof of concepts using Java, BDD testing concepts and Private Cloud.

To be successful as a Senior Tech Lead, you should have: 

• Hands on experience on Java backend stack (Java 11+ , spring boot, microservices)

• Hands on experience on Kafka, MQ (Middleware integration)

• Experience with relational DB (oracle, SQL Server)

Other highly valued skills include:

• Test driven development experience (Cucumber)

• CI / CD Pipeline creation and deployment in Private Cloud

• Private and public cloud experience

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
