Join us as a Senior Python Developer within the Group Economic Crime Technology division, where you will play a key role in building and enhancing technology solutions that underpin Financial Crime prevention and Wholesale Client Onboarding processes.

In this role, you will design, develop, and optimise Python-based services, tooling, and data pipelines that support regulatory, screening, onboarding, and payments‑related controls across a complex technology landscape. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional engineering and change‑delivery teams, ensuring that developed solutions meet stringent governance, quality, and data‑integrity standards aligned with Barclays’ internal control frameworks.

You will work with modern engineering practices—including CI/CD automation, secure coding standards, Infrastructure provisioning and automated testing—while integrating your solutions with platforms such as Jira, Gitlab and broader Group Economic Crime data and workflow systems.

As a senior member of the team, you will also contribute to solution design discussions, mentor junior engineers, and help drive continuous improvement across our Financial Crime Technology estate.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Strong development and debugging skills in Python.
  • Provision and manage infrastructure (cloud/on-prem) using tools like Chef/Ansible.
  • Understanding on Big data eco-system like Spark and good with NoSQL data bases like Hive, Impala and NoSQL querying.

Some other highly valued skill include:

  • Design, build and deploy automated builds ensuring scalability & reliability at scale.
  • Integrate security best practices and site reliability concepts into pipelines and systems.
  • Understanding of Distributed systems and their behaviours.

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
