Join us at Barclays as a Google Cloud Engineering Lead and take charge of designing, building, and evolving our secure, scalable GCP landing zone. In this pivotal role, you will lead a team of engineers to develop, mature, and maintain the platform, ensuring it meets the needs of our business and customers.
Working closely with product owners and technical teams, you will apply modern development practices to deliver a robust foundation for our cloud services, enabling innovation and efficiency across the bank.
To be successful as a Google Cloud Engineering Lead, you should have:
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Implementation & Operations - Strong hands-on experience deploying, configuring, and operating GCP services at scale, including networking, IAM, monitoring, and resource management — able to guide engineers and review their work for quality and compliance.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform - Expert-level skills writing, modularizing, and managing Terraform code for complex cloud environments, including state management and CI/CD integration.
- DevOps & CI/CD using GitLab - Strong experience setting up GitLab pipelines for automated provisioning, testing, and deployment of cloud infrastructure
Some other highly valued skills may include:
- Cloud Security & Compliance - Familiar with Cloud / GCP security best practices for landing zones.
- Team Leadership & Agile Delivery - Proven track record in leading cross-functional engineering teams, mentoring engineers, and delivering projects using Agile/Kanban methodologies.
- Multi-Cloud Experience (AWS and Azure) - Experience designing and integrating landing zones or foundational platforms across AWS and Azure in addition to GCP, including networking, identity federation, and workload migration

- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
