Join us as an Investment Banking Associate in the Financial Sponsors Group, where you'll be driving M&A, Leveraged Finance and ECM execution and origination support for our private equity clients across industry and geographic verticals in EMEA.

Barclays' Investment Banking division provides comprehensive financial advisory, capital raising, financing and risk management services to corporations, governments, and financial institutions worldwide. We take an integrated approach to client coverage, providing our clients with access to bankers who have industry and geography specific expertise across all investment banking products.

The Financial Sponsors Group originate and execute transactions across the investment banking product suite for our private equity clients’ portfolio investments, including LBO financing and capital structure management, buy side and sell side M&A, IPOs and follow on rights issues. The team is one of the leading private equity coverage groups in Europe.

Essential skills:

  • Solid analytical and modelling skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial concepts; ability to analyse and value businesses, assess credit risk.
  • Robust process management and coordination skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good understanding of professional ethics and regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrate best in class professional integrity.

Desirable skills:

  • Excellent academic background (a minimum of bachelor’s degree).
  • Relevant experience including Leveraged Finance, M&A/Corporate Finance, Transaction Services, broader Investment Banking experience.
  • Fluent in English; ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages is helpful.

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain relationships with clients, understand their needs, expectations and financial goals to develop and propose appropriate investment banking solutions for clients and their companies  

Accountabilities

  • Development and maintenance of strong relationships with corporate clients by understanding their business, financial goals, and industry trends.   .
  • Generation of ideas and identification of opportunities that expand the bank's client base and generate new business opportunities.  .
  • In-depth financial analysis and due diligence on client companies to assess their financial health and valuation.  .
  • Collaboration with legal and compliance teams to review, draft, and maintain legal documentation required for transactions, including contracts and agreements.  .
  • Collaboration with other teams, such as Capital Markets, Sales and Trading, Research, and Risk Management, to provide comprehensive solutions to clients.  .
  • Champion Energy Transition and Sustainability by engaging with clients on their climate, transition strategies and sustainable finance opportunities where applicable.  .
  • To build and maintain relationships with clients, understand their needs, expectations and financial goals to develop and propose appropriate investment banking solutions for clients and their companies.  .
