What will you be doing?

Barclays Services Corp. seeks Application Developer AVP in New York, NY (multiple positions available):

  • Develop and support a high-throughput, low-latency, Java-based monolithic OMS used in U.S. equities and options trading under regulatory constraints.

  • Debug production issues in sub-millisecond latency environments during live trading hours.

  • Implement financial messaging protocols and flows for client and broker connectivity across multiple trading venues, supporting order routing and post-trade capture, with production experience integrating FIX engines and managing session states in real-time institutional trading environments.

  •  Maintain Solace-based messaging layers (or equivalent middleware messaging platform such as TIBCO EMS, IBM MQ, or Apache Kafka) including setup of queues, bridges, and subscriptions across production and test environments for high availability and resilience in high-frequency trading systems.

  • Identify and resolve production issues using tools like SSH port forwarding and Kibana/Elasticsearch (Splunk, Datadog or equivalent), triaging live trading incidents in coordination with traders, compliance, and business stakeholders.

  • Automate configuration and deployment of observability tools using DevOps frameworks such as Chef (Ansible, Terraform or equivalent) for writing infrastructure as a code recipe used in automating deployment and environment configuration of trading system infrastructure.

  • Manage release pipelines for mission-critical trading systems (TeamCity, GitLab, Jenkins, or equivalent) and system tasks including job scheduling and hotfix rollout with rollback planning.

  • Coordinate with global development teams to ensure aligned deployments and operational continuity across regions in 24/7 institutional trading operations.

  • Build and support global trading flows including inter-region and inter-desk order routing driven by liquidity access, regulatory obligations, and multi-venue coverage.

  • Prioritize test-first development by implementing unit and integration tests to ensure production-ready code quality.

Salary / Rate Minimum/yr: $189,592 per year

Salary / Rate Maximum/yr: $199,592 per year

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
