As a Barclays Europe Product Controller AVP you will oversee key PC controls for Barclays Europe Markets & Banking, partnering with trading and infrastructure teams across India, the UK, and the US.

Key Accountabilities

  • Be the point of Barclays Europe accountability for the output of key PC controls and services for Markets and Banking portfolios.
  • Manage and run daily P&L reporting and commentary for trading desks in Barclays Europe.
  • Attend to queries from traders and other infrastructure partners related to trading revenue and balance sheet.
  • Partner with the trading teams on key initiatives, including the ongoing build of Barclays Europe’s Markets businesses.
  • Drive insightful and compelling analysis of financial and control metrics for Barclays Europe Markets & Banking, leading to better management understanding of the dynamics of the trading and banking businesses.
  • Review key weekly & monthly reporting to senior management and regulators.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership 

  • Represent Product Control in interactions with senior traders and key stakeholders within Barclays Europe Markets & Banking.
  • Form a close working relationship with the Product Control teams in US,Londonand Chennaiin order toensure a smooth and seamless delivery of workflow and services.
  • Form close working relationships with the wider Barclays Europe Finance teams in Dublin and Europe.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in trading strategies, financialproductsand markets.
  • Proven ability and appetite to learn new skills.
  • A strong understanding ofFrench GAAP and some understanding ofIFRS accounting rules.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. You will be comfortable working with and presenting to traders and other senior stakeholders. 

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

  • A strong understanding of IFRS accounting rules.
  • Previousexperience in a financial services function at a top tier organisation.
  • Experience of working in teams across multiple business areas,functionsand locations.

Purpose of the role

To oversee the financial aspects of trading activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the bank's trading book, maintenance of compliance with regulatory requirements, and provision of insights into trading performance.  

Accountabilities

  • Reconciliation of daily profit and loss (P&L) figures for trading desks to ensure they align with the valued positions in the trading book, investigating and resolving discrepancies between P&L figures to ensure they reflect the true economic value of the trading portfolio.
  • Support the identification, assessment, and mitigation of trading risks, and report on these financial risks to senior colleagues.
  • Maintenance and analysis of the bank’s trading data, ensuring its accuracy, completeness and consistency, and provision of insights to traders and senior colleagues on trading performance.
  • Preparation and submission of regulatory reports to authorities, and provision of support to external audits including addressing auditor queries and ensuring trading activities are appropriately reflected in financial statements.
  • Effective communication of complex financial information to traders, risk professionals, senior colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Cross functional collaboration to ensure a coordinated approach to trading activities.
