Android Engineer

To be successful as an Android Engineer, you should have experience with:

• Design, develop and maintain Android applications using modern development practices.
• Build clean, scalable and reusable components for customer‑facing mobile journeys.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers and QA teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Integrate Android applications with RESTful APIs and platform services
• Write well‑structured, maintainable and testable code.
• Participate in code reviews, sharing knowledge and promoting engineering best practices.
• Ensure application quality, performance and stability through testing and troubleshooting.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation and adoption of modern mobile engineering practices.
• Strong experience in Android application development using Kotlin and/or Java.
• Experience building and releasing consumer‑facing Android applications.
• Solid understanding of Android SDK, app lifecycle and UI components.
• Experience integrating with REST APIs.
• Hands‑on experience with unit testing and UI testing.
• Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

• Experience working on large‑scale or high‑traffic mobile applications.
• Knowledge of Android performance optimization, memory management and accessibility.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience collaborating with iOS or cross‑platform teams.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
