To be a successful Scrum Master, you should have experience with:

Agile Delivery Leadership

  • Lead Agile delivery across one or more complex product streams or value chains.

  • Facilitate key Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Reviews, Retrospectives, PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, and Inspect & Adapt sessions.

  • Ensure adherence to Agile principles, Scrum practices, and organizational delivery standards.

  • Drive predictable delivery of business value through effective planning and execution.

Stakeholder & Dependency Management

  • Build strong relationships with Business, Operations, Technology, and Change stakeholders.

  • Manage cross-team dependencies and delivery risks.

  • Facilitate alignment across multiple teams and external partners.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on Agile delivery practices and risks.

Delivery Governance & Reporting

  • Provide transparency into delivery progress, team health, risks, impediments, and outcomes.

  • Produce and present metrics such as velocity, burn-down, flow efficiency, lead time, and delivery predictability.

  • Support governance forums and senior management reviews.

  • Ensure accurate maintenance of delivery tools and artefacts (JIRA, Confluence, PI Boards, RAID logs).

Team Coaching & Continuous Improvement

  • Coach teams and leaders on Agile principles, servant leadership, and self-organization.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and psychological safety.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through retrospectives and data-driven insights.

  • Mentor junior Scrum Masters and Agile practitioners.

Risk & Issue Management

  • Proactively identify, track, and resolve delivery impediments.

  • Escalate risks where required and ensure effective mitigation plans are in place.

  • Facilitate resolution of operational, technical, and organizational blockers.

Agile Transformation & Scaling

  • Support enterprise Agile transformation initiatives.

  • Drive adoption of SAFe and Agile best practices across teams.

  • Promote standardization where beneficial while encouraging continuous adaptation and improvement.

  • Collaborate with Release Train Engineers, Product Management, and Leadership teams to improve flow across the organization.

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience as a Scrum Master in complex technology delivery environments.

  • Strong understanding of Scrum, Kanban, Lean and Agile delivery frameworks.

  • Experience working within SAFe or other scaled Agile environments.

  • Strong facilitation, coaching, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience managing delivery across multiple teams and senior stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present delivery metrics.

  • Experience using JIRA, Confluence, similar Agile tooling.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM), PSM, SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) or SAFe Advanced Scrum Master.

  • Experience within Payments, Corporate Banking, FX, Digital, or Enterprise Technology domains.

  • Knowledge of software engineering lifecycle, DevOps, CI/CD and cloud-based delivery models.

Purpose of the role

To manage the efficient delivery of large-scale technical projects and capabilities across the bank and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations throughout the software product lifecycle, adhering to agreed time, budget and quality requirements. 

Accountabilities

  • Management of the delivery, resource allocation and improvement of complex technical project capabilities across the bank using Agile/Scrum methodologies for planning, stand-ups, demos, retrospectives and the execution of sprints.
  • Collaboration with customers and business teams to manage and implement customer trails to support the proposal of technically feasible solutions, and effort and timeline expectations.
  • Collaboration with software engineers, quality teams, product managers and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality products and features through the software project lifecycle aligned to the banks objectives, regulation and security policies.
  • Identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks associated with technical projects to prepare the bank for potential challenges.
  • Management of change requests and communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Management of vendor relations involved in technical projects to ensure they deliver according to agreed terms.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry technology trends and technologies, to evaluate and adopt new approaches to improving deliver outcomes and to foster a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence and growth.
