Overall purpose of role
The main purpose of the role is to provide both Engineering and Architectural leadership in the newly formed Glasgow Enterprise Data Platform Team. The Enterprise Data Platform is a collection of platforms, frameworks and services that provide standard tooling across the bank for moving, ensuring quality, storing, archiving, cataloguing, accessing, manipulating and consuming data as it moves through its data lifecycle. The end result being the data being easily discoverable and accessible for end users to unlock business insights utilizing ML and the more traditional analytics tooling.
Key Accountabilities
- Architect the platform considering the financial aspects of the design along with the other NFR’s.
- Communicating designs to the Architecture council as well as the CTO and CSO organizations.
- Drive delivery of capabilities in the EDP platform with a focus on a Hybrid Cloud strategy.
- Provide leadership to the local engineering team in Glasgow.
- Ensure adherence to bank technical standards & SDLC with focus on code quality.
- Ensure team working Agile, encourage interactive delivery and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership to the location team, encouraging learning of new technologies.
- Work with the Product Owners to assist with planning and overall strategy of the platform.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Strong Architecture and Design experience in a Cloud environment.
- Understanding of Agile Software development methodologies and governance
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. Able to work effectively with a variety of key stakeholder groups.
Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Architecture or Engineering certification.
- Microsoft Azure
- Experience in AWS Data Analytics.
- Snowflake
- Databricks
- Experience with containerization.
Purpose of the role
To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure.
Accountabilities
- Build and maintenance of data architectures pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete and consistent data.
- Design and implementation of data warehoused and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
- Development of processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
- Collaboration with data scientist to build and deploy machine learning models.
