Explore locationJoin us as a Data Engineer at Barclays where you will spearhead the evolution of our data platforms and pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to build and manage robust, scalable and secure data solutions, ensuring seamless delivery of our digital and analytics outcomes.
To be successful as a Data Engineer, you should have experience with:
Experience in Data Warehousing / ETL / Data Integration projects, delivering end-to-end pipelines (ingestion, transformation, validation, and publish).
Strong SQL & PL/SQL skills – advanced SQL (strong in Teradata), with solid Data Modelling (dimensional / relational) and querying skills for data extraction, transformation, validation, and query performance tuning mindset.
Scripting/programming (e.g., Unix Shell Scripting and PySpark/Python) to build reliable, testable pipelines; ability to write and debug shell scripts for job orchestration.
Good understanding of AWS Cloud services for data engineering (e.g., S3-based data storage and cloud-native pipeline patterns), with awareness of security and controls required for enterprise data.
Scheduling Tools: Familiarity with Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS) or similar.
Testing & QA: Exposure to SIT, E2E, and OAT testing cycles; Should be able to write test cases and execute testing scenarios.
Agile Delivery: Experience with JIRA for sprint planning, backlog grooming, and delivery tracking.
Collaborate with architects, analysts, and QA teams to ensure data quality and system stability.
Code reviews, peer testing, and production deployments.
Strong communication skills.
Maintain documentation and support audit and compliance requirements.
Some other highly valued skills may include:
Hands on development with design and building of medium to large enterprise projects; strong ownership, troubleshooting and ability to work through complex data issues end-to-end.
Experience in BI/Reporting tools (e.g., Business Objects / Power BI / Tableau) and supporting downstream reporting & analytics consumption.
Familiarity with engineering ways of working: Agile/Scrum delivery, Jira, version control (Git), and CI/CD style release discipline for data pipelines.
Knowledge of Banking domain and good awareness of risk, controls, data quality, and secure handling of sensitive data in regulated environments.
GenAI‑assisted code generation and validation: Ability to use GenAI/copilot tools to generate and fix code issues, test cases, summarize logs and accelerate defect triage.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and automation efforts.
