Join us as a Data Engineering Lead at Barclays, where you'll take part in the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. As a part of the team, you will deliver technology stack, using strong analytical and problem solving skills to understand the business requirements and deliver quality solutions. You'll be working on complex technical problems that will involve detailed analytical skills and analysis. This will be done in conjunction with fellow engineers, business analysts and business stakeholders. 

To be successful as a Data Engineering Lead you should have experience with:

  • Design and develop new data pipelines using AWS S3, Glue, Python, Athena, Lambda, Databricks & Airflow.
  • Ample knowledge of cloud architecture in AWS.
  • Extensive hands-on in building Data migration processes using AWS services, Abinitio, Oracle 12g/19c, Hadoop, Spark, Scala, MongoDB, Unix Shell scripting, HBase, HiveQL, Stash/Git.
  • Experience in developing PL/SQL Packages, Procedures, Functions, SQL* Loader in accordance with business requirements for loading data into database tables.
  • Improve the performance of SQL queries or data ingestion jobs in AWS, Oracle & Hadoop, Spark and Scala.
  • Design, develop, and maintain shell scripts (ash/bash) for PGP encryption and decryption of files transferred between clients and internal systems. Ensure encryption processes comply with security standards and client requirements. Automate the execution of encryption scripts to enhance efficiency and security.
  • Perform analysis on data in Hadoop and get the issues fixed if any. This may involve coding in Spark/Scala/MapReduce or guide the developers to perform such tasks.
  • Data and Solution Architecture Tools including Visio, Draw.io, Confluence
  • Perform data analysis using Athena while ensuring data security and compliance.
  • Conduct client demo sessions to walk through new feature development, resolve escalated production issues by debugging the application code and finding the root cause.
  • Perform unit test before handing over application to Quality Analyst.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly.

This role is based in Chennai.

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure. 

Accountabilities

  • Build and maintenance of data architectures pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete and consistent data.
  • Design and implementation of data warehoused and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
  • Development of processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
  • Collaboration with data scientist to build and deploy machine learning models.
