Join Barclays as a Full Stack Java Developer, where you will play a key role in the Client Onboarding project. In this position, you will lead the delivery of complex, business-critical development initiatives while providing strong hands-on technical expertise.

You will be responsible for designing and building key components, ensuring compliance with engineering, security, and control standards, and supporting the delivery of strategic and regulatory commitments. In addition, you will mentor and collaborate with junior developers across the region, fostering technical excellence and team growth.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Strong hands-on full stack developer with full SDLC ownership (design, build, test, deploy, and operate)
  • Core technologies (preferred): Java 8/17; Spring / Spring Boot (incl. Integration, Batch, Cloud); microservices; REST APIs; OAuth; messaging (Tibco/MQ, JMS); SQL; Unix/Linux; CI/CD (Jenkins, TeamCity); unit testing (JUnit) and TDD; scheduling (Autosys); and common design patterns
  • JavaScript, Angular/AngularJS, HTML, CSS
  • Demonstrated hands-on engineering capability with strong code quality, testing discipline, and ability to diagnose issues end-to-end
  • Consistently applies TDD/unit testing practices and contributes to automated regression coverage
  • Owns delivery commitments provides reliable estimates, manages dependencies, and executes to agreed timelines and quality standards
  • Collaborates effectively across engineering, QA, product owner, and stakeholders; mentors junior engineers and promotes consistent engineering practices
  • Communicates clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders; escalates risks early with options and recommendations
  • Experienced in Agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban), with strong practices around definition of done, documentation, and continuous improvement

Additional highly valued skills include:

  • Investment banking/markets domain experience is preferred
  • Experience working with Account Management System, account onboarding/maintenance
  • Experience working with Gitlab

This role is based in Glasgow.

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
