Join us as a “Credit Analyst VP” at Credit trading team at Barclays is a team that focuses on trading corporate credit. The Asia Special Situations desk focuses on credit trading opportunities in Asia.

To be a successful “Credit Analyst VP" - The candidate would mainly cover Asia region supporting the onshore primary credit analyst in analysing companies for new transactions and monitoring the financial performance of the obligors in existing portfolio. The candidate would also be expected to produce analysis and presentations for senior management to track market news and trends.

Basic/ Essential Qualifications:

  • Conduct in-depth fundamental credit analysis of Asian high-yield borrowers/Issuers, including financial statement review, cash flow modeling, and covenant assessment.
  • Identify key risks, mitigants, and structural considerations during transaction evaluation.
  • Evaluate industry dynamics, competitive positioning, and macroeconomic factors impacting credit risk.
  • Develop and present actionable Lending /investment ideas to portfolio managers, supported by robust analysis and valuation metrics.
  • Provide relative value assessments across sectors and instruments to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Continuously monitor credit quality, rating changes, and market developments for covered issuers.
  • Identify early warning signals for potential downgrades or defaults and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in sector allocation decisions based on relative value and risk-return trade-offs.
  • Maintain active dialogue with company management, rating agencies, and sell-side analysts to gather insights.
  • Participate in industry conferences and due diligence meetings to stay ahead of market trends.
  • Work closely with portfolio managers, traders, and other analysts to support investment decisions.
  • Provide timely credit updates and market commentary to internal stakeholders.

Desirable skillsets/ good to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Professional certifications: CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) preferred/ CA/ MBA.
  • Experience  in credit research, high-yield/distressed debt analysis, or leveraged finance.
  • Experience in  Asian credit markets with exposure to special situations and complex deal structures.
  • Expertise in fundamental credit analysis, including financial statement interpretation, ratio analysis, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Ability to assess complex capital structures, covenant packages, and recovery scenarios for high-yield and distressed credits.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel-based financial modelling, including scenario analysis and sensitivity testing.
  • Familiarity with valuation techniques such as DCF, relative value, and recovery analysis.
  • Awareness of regional regulatory frameworks, credit documentation standards, and internal compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Market data System and ability to leverage market data platforms for pricing, spreads, and liquidity analysis.
  • Strong ability to articulate investment theses through clear, concise memos and presentations.
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement, including discussions with portfolio managers, traders, and external parties.
  • Strong networking skills with issuers, rating agencies, and sell-side analysts.
  • Familiarity with legal documentation (loan agreements, bond indentures).

This role will be based out of NKP in Mumbai.

Purpose of the role

To maintain the smooth and efficient operation of our trading desks, providing operational support and expertise to traders, sales professionals, and other key stakeholders, helping them maximize their productivity and minimize disruptions and handling administrative tasks, and providing market information and research. 

Accountabilities

  • Provision of immediate and efficient technical support to traders and sales professionals on the trading desks, resolving hardware, software, and network-related issues to ensure uninterrupted trading activities.
  • Coordination of trade execution by liaising with traders, clients, and other internal teams to ensure smooth transactions.
  • Maintenance and updating of trade records, transaction logs, and client databases accurately.
  • Reports, presentations, and documentation preparation to support sales and trading activities.
  • Monitoring of market data and assist in the analysis of financial information for trading decisions.
  • Operational tasks such as processing trades, confirming orders, and resolving trade discrepancies.
