Join Barclays as VP - Sanctions Compliance Lead where you'll provide first class support to the Sanctions Compliance team in either the UK or US region. You will have the opportunity of guiding a team of people to manage the overall management of sanctions risk by providing guidance and input to critical or technically complex business initiatives. Your role will have the responsibility of building good partnerships with the business partners, supporting first line of defense operational areas in ensuring compliance with Sanctions Policy, monitoring controls associated with sanctions and promoting a culture of risk control across the business and Financial Crime.

To be successful in this role, you should have,

  • Experience in understanding of laws, regulations, regulatory expectations and industry best practice.

  • Experience leading teams within Financial Services.

  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

  • Sound judgement, excellent attention to detail and the ability and confidence to make recommendations on business-critical decisions.

  • Good organizational, planning, prioritization and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multi-task and demonstrate flexible thinking.

  • Ability to interact at all levels of the organization, including distilling complex issues to clear and concise briefings for senior management.

  • Comprehension of materiality of issues and their potential reputational and regulatory impact, with a clear understanding of when to escalate and to what level.

Some other highly valued skills may include

  • Excellent understanding of OFAC, HMT, EU, and UN sanctions laws, regulations, regulatory expectations and industry best practice.

  • Experience in providing legal advice on different areas of law or regulation.

  • An interest in politics and its effect on global regulatory environment.

  • Solid understanding of the Barclays Group/Business Units and its major customer/payments processing systems.

This role is based in our Noida office.

Purpose of the role

To identify and conduct the appropriate analysis and due diligence on Sanctions alerts to ensure the appropriate action is taken against customers and payment activity as defined by the Sanctions Standards and Restricted Activity Matrix, ensuring that the organisation adheres to all applicable sanction’s laws and regulations and internal governance, such that client accounts are not held and transactions are not processed in breach of application laws and regulations. 

Accountabilities

  • Understanding the objectives of the Global Sanctions Function and the control frameworks and embed a culture of compliance with sanctions.
  • Revision of escalated cases and confirm a True Match in line with regulations/policy accurately and in a timely manner, feeding back on instances of incorrect escalation.
  • Management and provision of guidance in the completion of complex sanctions investigations, ensuring that matters are correctly managed and follow appropriate escalation routes, while involving the relevant stakeholders early and fully.
  • Due diligence on Payment Screening alerts to determine the appropriate treatment and next steps for the payment in line with documented procedures following the defined governance process and approvals as required.
  • Escalation of Customer Screening True Matches to appropriate Business Aligned Sanctions Team for assessment.
  • Identification of opportunities to drive efficiencies in the alert management process and feed these back to the appropriate team(s) to implement.
