Join the Barclays Europe Compliance Assurance team and play a key role in delivering independent, risk-based reviews across Conduct, Financial Crime, and Reputational risk.

Barclays Europe Compliance Assurance is part of the global BBPLC Compliance Assurance function and supports the firm’s Compliance strategy by assessing the effectiveness of controls, delivering insightful analysis, and providing pragmatic advice and challenge to the business. The function operates within a global second-line assurance community, supported by Central Compliance Assurance across four core areas:

  • Conduct / Reputation

  • Financial Crime

  • Issue Management Framework

  • Automated Assurance

As a VP, Barclays Europe Conduct Assurance, you will bring:

  • A strong background in Financial Services Compliance, including conduct, financial crime, and reputational risk

  • Experience in Assurance or Internal Audit, with a proven ability to deliver reviews and produce high-quality reports

  • People leadership and strong project management skills to deliver complex reviews effectively

  • Control and outcome testing experience, with the ability to:

    • Identify key risks and regulatory or legislative non-conformance

    • Assess control gaps and weaknesses

    • Identify root causes, themes, and emerging trends

Other highly valued skills include:

  • The ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and build strong relationships with geographically dispersed teams and senior executives

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence to provide clear challenge and insight

This role is based in Paris.

You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in the role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role is deemed as a Controlled Function role under the Central Bank of Ireland Fitness and Probity Regulations and may require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications or the minimum qualifications to meet internal company benchmarks.

Purpose of the role

To provide assurance over the effectiveness of Compliance Risk Management across the bank. 

Accountabilities

  • Delivery of risk-based assurance activity to validate the effectiveness of controls and processes designed to mitigate Compliance Risk.
  • Identification of potential risks associated with non-compliance or control weaknesses in relation to Compliance Risk.
  • Verbal and written communication of Compliance Assurance reports and issues to enhance the effectiveness of Compliance Risk management and oversight.
  • Build, development and maintenance of effective relationships between Compliance Assurance and stakeholders across the three lines of defence.
  • Proactive adoption of Data Analytics capabilities to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and coverage of Assurance work.
  • Continued focus on the Barclays Mindset and Consistently Excellent to enhance the Assurance that we deliver, how it is delivered and the culture within the bank.

Vice President Expectations

  • To contribute or set strategy, drive requirements and make recommendations for change. Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies/ processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches of policies/procedures.
