Join us as Vice President Engineering Manager – Full Stack, where you will play a pivotal role in leading the engineering strategy and execution across backend and frontend systems for Barclays’ Mortgage Opening Transformation initiatives. You will drive technical excellence, mentor high-performing teams, and deliver business value through robust, secure, and maintainable systems.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Hands-on experience with micro-frontend architectures (e.g., Single-SPA, Module Federation) tailored for large-scale enterprise platforms.

  • Expert-level hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, React Native, Redux for building scalable, performant, and accessible web and mobile applications.

  • Advanced proficiency in modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and responsive design principles across device breakpoints.

  • Deep familiarity with React ecosystem tools including React Router, Hooks, Context API, and advanced state management patterns.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of UI testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, and Cypress, with experience in test-driven development and maintaining high code coverage.

  • Proven track record of leading backend engineering using Java, Spring Boot, and AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, etc.).

  • Hands on experience of event-driven architecture patterns using AWS messaging services (SNS, SQS, Event Bridge) and asynchronous processing.

  • Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and microservices architecture.

  • Strong experience with AWS ecosystem: Lambda, API Gateway, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, etc.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins), infrastructure as code, and DevOps practices.

  • Familiarity with backend scalability, caching strategies, and data flow optimization.

  • Knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, and secure API design.

  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) and responsible AI governance.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Strong understanding of backend technologies with the ability to influence end-to-end architecture and ensure seamless frontend-backend integration.

  • Knowledge of API orchestration and microservices to support secure and scalable UI interactions.

  • Familiarity with AWS services is relevant to both frontend and backend integration.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to align engineering efforts with business and design objectives.

  • Proven experience in executive-level reporting, strategic planning, and roadmap development.

  • Understanding of Barclays’ risk and control frameworks, especially in the context of frontend technologies and responsible AI adoption.

Purpose of the role

To  lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives. 

Accountabilities

  • Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
  • Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
  • Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
  • Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
  • Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.
