Engineering Manager

Join us as an Engineering Manager at Barclays where you will lead the design, development and delivery of modern, scalable and resilient enterprise platforms. You will drive engineering excellence across the software development lifecycle, leveraging cloud-native technologies, modern architecture patterns and emerging AI capabilities to deliver innovative digital solutions that create business value and enhance customer outcomes.

To be successful as an Engineering Manager, you should have experience with:

• Deep hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs and Microservices Architecture

• Strong expertise in designing and delivering large-scale enterprise applications and distributed systems

• Experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex programmes in Agile environments

• Strong knowledge of cloud-native development, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices and container platforms (Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift)

Some other highly valued skills may include:

• Experience with Kafka, MQ, event streaming and asynchronous messaging platforms

• Knowledge of GenAI technologies, LLM integrations, prompt engineering and AI-assisted development tools

• Experience with AI/Agentic frameworks, vector databases and retrieval patterns

• Experience in financial services, platform engineering, developer experience tooling and modern observability frameworks

Purpose of the role

To  lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives. 

Accountabilities

• Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
• Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
• Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
• Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
• Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.
