The Quality Assurance Automation Engineer will design, develop, execute, and maintain automated testing solutions across web, mobile, and API applications while collaborating with Product Owners, Developers, Business Analysts, and QA teams. The role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable, reliable, and high-quality software through effective test automation, continuous integration, data validation, defect management, and adherence to Barclays engineering and quality standards.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrable experience in test automation and quality engineering across Web, Mobile, and API applications, including designing, developing, and maintaining scalable automation frameworks.
  • Strong hands-on experience with automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver, Appium, Rest Assured, Postman, and Karate.
  • Proven ability to develop, execute, and maintain automated test suites for RESTful APIs and microservices-based architectures, ensuring functionality, security, performance, and data integrity.
  • Strong programming experience in Java, JavaScript, or Python, with expertise in building robust, reusable, and maintainable automation solutions.
  • Hands-on experience implementing automated testing strategies, including functional, regression, integration, end-to-end, and behavior-driven testing, using frameworks such as Cucumber.
  • Strong experience integrating automated testing into Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI.
  • Proficiency in SQL and database testing, including backend validation, data verification, defect investigation, and troubleshooting across enterprise applications.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies, software testing lifecycle processes, defect management, and quality assurance best practices.

Good to Have Skills

  • Experience with ETL and Data Warehouse testing, including data migration, transformation, reconciliation, and validation activities.
  • Knowledge of Mainframe systems, batch processing, file validation, and data processing workflows.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Understanding of performance testing concepts, tools, and non-functional testing practices.
  • Knowledge of Microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and distributed application testing.
  • Experience using Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar test management and defect tracking tools.
  • ISTQB certification or equivalent testing certification.
  • Experience working within Banking, Financial Services, Insurance, or other regulated industry environments, and large-scale Agile delivery organizations.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
