Embark on a transformative journey as a Network Security Engineer - AVP. At Barclays, our vision is clear — to redefine the future of banking and craft innovative solutions. In this role, you will design, deliver, and continuously improve advanced network security controls that protect our enterprise against evolving threats. You will work hands-on across strategic network security platforms, embedding security-by-design and zero trust principles while enabling safe, predictable change at scale in a highly regulated environment. As a senior technical contributor, you will influence platform design, engineering standards, and security outcomes across the global network estate, with clear ownership and visible impact. Production Network Engineering operates within the Network Product Design & Engineering domain and is responsible for the design, build, and run of strategic network infrastructure platforms and connectivity services. In this role, you will partner closely with infrastructure, cloud, architecture, and cybersecurity teams to engineer secure, resilient services and drive modern engineering practices through automation, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD patterns.

To be successful as a Network Security Engineer - AVP, you should have experience with:

  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating network security solutions across one or more domains: firewalls, IDS/IPS, proxy services, remote access, NAC, and network segmentation

  • Considerable understanding of security policies, standards, and technical baselines, with the ability to implement and continuously improve secure configurations across on premise, hybrid, and cloud environments

  • Evidence of automation and engineering efficiency through Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Terraform

  • Experience operating within change, risk, and control governance, including contribution to audit, compliance, and operational reporting requirements

  • Incident and problem management capability, including root cause analysis and remediation of vulnerabilities (with senior technical leadership expected at VP level)

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Experience advising stakeholders on secure design, risk tradeoffs, and strategic security decisions (particularly at VP level)

  • Experience driving continuous improvement of platform health, reliability, and operational integrity

  • Relevant professional certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, AWS or Azure Security, or equivalent, considered an advantage

This role is located in our Whippany, New Jersey office.

Minimum Salary: $120,000

Maximum Salary: $175,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above include only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

Purpose of the role

To develop, implement and maintain solutions that support the safeguarding of the banks systems and sensitive information.  

Accountabilities

  • Provision of subject matter expertise on security systems and engineering patterns.
  • Development and implementation of protocols, algorithms, and software applications to protect sensitive data and systems.
  • Management and protection of secrets, ensuring that they are securely generated, stored, and used.
  • Execution of audits to monitor, identify and assess vulnerabilities in the banks infrastructure/software and support the response to potential security breaches.
  • Identification of advancements in to support the innovation and adoption of new cryptographic technologies and techniques.
  • Collaboration across the bank, including developers and security teams, to ensure that cryptographic solutions align with business objectives, security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Development/ Implementation and maintenance of Identity and Access Management solutions and systems.
