Embark on a transformative journey at Barclays as a Senior Java Developer - AVP in the Markets Sales Technology Platforms. In this role you will be accountable for delivering technology solutions for an integrated desktop for Sales, providing digital, systematic workflows, and data & analytics across the end-to-end Sales journey. You will be expected to deliver robust design and technical solutions in a controlled, transparent, and actively risk-managed fashion. You will collaborate with global teams to implement coding standards and best practices for software development, ensuring compliance with processes including, but not limited to, unit testing and continuous integration. Additionally, you will be responsible for interacting with the Markets Sales users in the front office from time to time to understand issues and feedback, incorporating them into developing solutions.

To be successful as an Senior Java Developer - AVP, you should have: 

  • Expertise in Java development, extensive knowledge of and experience with Java (8 or higher)

  • Experience in container technologies including microservices, messaging protocols with Kafka and Caching technologies like Apache Ignite

  • Experience with Spring Boot, Junit, Gitlab / Maven and JIRA

  • Solid understanding of Test Driven and Continuous integration way of software development process

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Financial industry experience, knowledge of Fixed Income products (Prior experience with Structuring / Pre-Trade / Post-Trade capture, workflow, processing and associated life-cycling will be plus)

  • Proficiency in requirements analysis and software design; Experience investigating production incidents with priority with a view to restore the services ASAP

  • Basic knowledge of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design principles to collaborate effectively with UI team

  • Knowledge of microservices orchestration & BPMN tools preferably Camunda

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse individuals and global teams

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
