Join us at Barclays as a Fixed Income Total Return Swaps Trader. Barclays’ Fixed Income Total Return Swaps Trading team runs a global business within the Markets business. This team is a leading provider of Fixed Income (FI) Index Total Return Swaps on Benchmark FI indices, as well as a wide variety of other indices. The team also offers Total Return Swaps (TRS) on customized bond portfolios, bond forwards, and other bespoke solutions to provide a variety of exposures. The team services global client demand across several jurisdictions, including the U.S., Japan, Australia, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.  The team works with clients across the spectrum, including Asset Managers, Pension Funds, Insurance clients, Corporates and Hedge Funds, offering products in a variety of funded and unfunded formats.  Your responsibilities in this role will include making markets in products traded on the desk for our global client base, contribution to team Risk and P&L management, sales & client interaction and working with a variety of internal and external partners.

To be successful as a Trader you should have:

  • A strong understanding of Fixed Income cash and derivative Instruments commonly traded in the market
  • Strong communication skills
  • Develop comfort with ambiguity and strong logical reasoning
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to perform accurately and efficiently under pressure
  • Ability to work with multiple teams across geographies
  • A bachelor’s degree and proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Additional skills of value include:

  • Previous related experience in market trading desk at the appropriate level
  • Proficient with Bloomberg, Python and/or other coding experience
  • Familiarity with financing markets
  • Comfort with reading and writing trade documentation

The role is based in London

This role is deemed as a Certified role under the PRA & UK Financial Conduct Authority - Individual Accountabilities Regulations and may require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications or the minimum qualifications to meet internal company benchmarks.

Purpose of the role

To execute trades and manage risk within a defined portfolio of financial instruments and staying informed about market trends and developments to make informed trading decisions. 

Accountabilities

  • Execution of buy and sell orders or pricing of liquidity in various financial instruments while adhering to the bank's trading strategies and risk parameters.
  • Monitoring and analysis of global financial markets, economic indicators, news, and geopolitical events to identify trading opportunities and assess market risks.
  • Management and monitoring of the risk associated with the trading portfolio and ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal risk management guidelines.
  • Collaboration with research analysts and other teams to gather insights and information for trading decisions.
