Director – Head of Data Engineering India

Overall purpose of role

In this role primarily responsible for building and maintaining the Data strategy for Singapore implementation and make it as a model implementation which can be adopted by wider PBWM Organisation for rest of jurisdictions compliance progressively .

  • Define and execute the data engineering strategy aligned with Business Goals and technology roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with CDO/COO for understanding the CDE, define the controls around CDE
  • Define and implement the data design principles and patterns, define data models
  • Designing efficient data pipelines
  • Ensuring data quality and integrity
  • Collaborating with data science and analytics teams
  • Scaling data solutions
  • Overseeing data security and compliance
  • Continuous learning and implementation of latest technologies
  • Managing and training the data engineering team
  • Implement cloud migration for the data with right hydrations
  • Budgeting and resource allocation
  • Implementing Data Products
  • Understand the different regulations, controls and ensure the ref data is of high quality and comply with high standards.
  • Understand the different data Reconciliation and manage the recons well.

They will hold a strategic and senior leadership role, typically overseeing the data strategy, data engineering, data infrastructure, data management practices and data-driven initiatives within Private Banking and Wealth Management. Managing and developing the data team to deliver outstanding Customer focused service, ensuring that all areas are focused on quality and quantity in equal focus & adhering to agreed policies, procedures, commercial and Customer practices. The successful candidate should be a powerful, passionate advocate of Barclays values and principles to ensure that our team takes the lead in the delivery of service and provision of information to support the enduring purpose, delivering sustainable competitive advantage.

The position holder is required to show leadership in effective data management, compliance and analytics for supporting business goals, enhancing customer experiences and driving operational efficiencies in line with agreed Private Bank and Wealth Management targets.

Oversee the recruitment, training and professional development of data engineering team. Foster a collaborative and innovative environment to drive high performance. Provide strategic guidance, mentorship and thought leadership for the data team, helping them stay ahead of technological trends and best practices. Define KPIs and ensure alignment with overall goals of PBWM.

Collaborate with executive leadership to define how data initiatives support the bank’s growth, profitability and risk management. Ensure that data engineering efforts translate to actionable insights for the business - optimisation, risk assessment and market trends.

Oversee the budgeting for data related initiatives, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently, and projects are delivered within budget constraints.

Define and track performance indicator for data engineering team and infrastructure, ensuring continuous improvement in system uptime, data accuracy and processing efficiency.

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure. 

Accountabilities

  • Build and maintenance of data architectures pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete and consistent data.
  • Design and implementation of data warehoused and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
  • Development of processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
  • Collaboration with data scientist to build and deploy machine learning models.

Director Expectations

  • To manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide..
  • They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. Or for an individual contributor, they lead organisation wide projects and act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross functionally. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions..
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
