Join us as a Senior Developer at Barclays, where you will spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. To be successful as a Senior Developer, you should have experience with:

  • Understand the various phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Undertake impact assessment and estimation of change requests against applications / products within domain.
  • Liaise with stakeholders for any requirement clarification to take that to closure.
  • Responsible for design, development and local test, and adherence to all coding standards.
  • Document all work in accordance with agreed standards, and with re-use in mind.
  • Report progress against assigned activities in a timely manner.
  • Co-ordinate and communicate with colleagues to encourage ideas and build on the suggestions of others.
  • Be supportive within the team, both technically and culturally, to help achieve all targets set within sprint plans.
  • Identify own development needs and seek opportunities to address these needs through guidance, coaching and formal training.
  • Collaborate with other component design and build teams, ensuring that end-to-end system design is followed.
  • Enlist others in working towards the organisation goals takes prompt and effective action to rectify problems within the team.
  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
  • Raise risks and issues in a timely manner, and complete associate actions in required timeframe.
  • Must have experience of working in an IT project environment preferably in card acquiring domain in banking and financial sector.
  • Must have Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Mainframe. Good experience of Unit testing and system testing.
  • Mainframe based languages - COBOL, JCL, VSAM and CICS.
  • Mainframe based tools used - TWS, REXX, XPEDITER, CA-View, SORT.
  • Hands on knowledge on FileAid in Mainframe.
  • Hands on knowledge of version control tool Endevor.
  • Hands on knowledge on RDBMS DB2 preferred.
  • Knowledge of Change, Incident and Problem Management process.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
