Sr Software Engineer

To be successful in this role, you should have below skills:

• Designs and delivers complex features across the stack (frontend, backend, data, ML inference), turning research prototypes into reliable, scalable products.

• Leads technical design: domain modeling, API contracts, eventing, caching, data quality; champions security, testing strategy, and performance optimization.

• Integrates AI capabilities (RAG pipelines, embeddings, prompt orchestration, model serving) with strong observability, evaluation, and guardrails.

• Uses AI developer tools and coding agents to accelerate implementation, while exercising expert judgment, review, and refactoring for maintainability.

• Mentors others, sets coding standards, runs design reviews, and contributes reusable libraries/components to improve team velocity.

• Collaborates with Product/UX to shape requirements, de risk unknowns via spikes, and deliver incrementally with robust telemetry and A/B experimentation.

• Owns operational readiness (alerts, SLOs, runbooks) and supports production through on call rotations and post incident learning.

• Partners with Barclays AI teams to incorporate latest AI tools, frameworks, and recommendations.

• Design and execute experiments and POCs for future readiness through focussed lab teams.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
