Join Barclays as a Senior Release Train Engineer, leading delivery for a substantial team dedicated to providing corporate banking clients with near real time, enriched data to meet their sophisticated needs. You will oversee circa 20 Scrum teams across 3 squads and guide several Release Train Engineers, ensuring alignment, efficiency, and seamless delivery. This strategic role calls for a seasoned leader with the expertise to steer a large-scale Agile organisation. You will manage delivery across multiple corporate client projects within the high-profile Corporate Data Services technology towers, a focus area closely monitored by senior leadership. Accountable for driving successful outcomes, you will coordinate across teams, engage in technically detailed discussions, and ideally draw on a strong data engineering background with up to date experience of exploiting Artificial Intelligence accelerators to maximise impact. This is a high visibility opportunity to lead at scale, shape technology strategy and define the future of data engineering at Barclays.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Extensive experience delivering within both Agile and Waterfall frameworks, adapting to the specific needs of each project environment.
  • Proven track record in delivering large, complex programmes, ensuring alignment with business objectives, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels including senior stakeholders, peers, and direct reports beyond formal reporting lines.
  • Experience in the financial sector, ideally within banking or similar regulated environments.
  • In-depth ETL expertise for both on-premise and cloud-based technologies.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of AI and ML trends, including emerging applications and industry developments.
  • High resilience and availability engineering experience, with familiarity in infrastructure engineering environments.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Solid background in Software Development, ideally with hands-on experience in Data Engineering.
  • Extensive experience managing within complex governance frameworks, with particularly strong expertise in Risk Management.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor teams with a focus on Agile frameworks and continuous improvement.

Purpose of the role

To manage the efficient delivery of large-scale technical projects and capabilities across the bank and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations throughout the software product lifecycle, adhering to agreed time, budget and quality requirements. 

Accountabilities

  • Management of the delivery, resource allocation and improvement of complex technical project capabilities across the bank using Agile/Scrum methodologies for planning, stand-ups, demos, retrospectives and the execution of sprints.
  • Collaboration with customers and business teams to manage and implement customer trails to support the proposal of technically feasible solutions, and effort and timeline expectations.
  • Collaboration with software engineers, quality teams, product managers and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality products and features through the software project lifecycle aligned to the banks objectives, regulation and security policies.
  • Identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks associated with technical projects to prepare the bank for potential challenges.
  • Management of change requests and communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Management of vendor relations involved in technical projects to ensure they deliver according to agreed terms.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry technology trends and technologies, to evaluate and adopt new approaches to improving deliver outcomes and to foster a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence and growth.
