Junior Software Developer

Embark on a transformative journey as a Junior Software Developer. At Barclays, our vision is clear – to redefine the future of banking and help craft innovative solutions. You will be building new capabilities in the equity risk management applications and generating intra-day and end of day risk for multiple desks. The work of the incoming junior developer includes developing business essential risk calculation, improving risk and valuation workflows, and automating and enhancing risk reporting. The junior developer will also be involved in building next generation of equity derivatives risk platform and decommissioning legacy systems.

To be successful as a Junior Software Developer, you should have:

• Experience developing applications in core Java (8 or 8+)

• Knowledge of multi-threading development and familiar with common Java frameworks, like Spring framework

• Deep knowledge of rational database, Oracle, or SQL server for instance

• Knowledge and experiences with NoSQL databases, middleware, containers, distributed cache, and other modern technologies

Other highly valued skills include:

• Fast learner in getting involved into new business, new technology and new ideas quickly and iterate through them with growing capacity

• Practical experience with agile development and comfortable with front-office pace

• Any knowledge of derivatives products especially complex products from any asset class would be highly valuable

This role is located in New York, NY office.

Minimum Salary: $120,000

Maximum Salary: $175,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above include only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
