Hybrid Working

Structured hybrid role:    
At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home.  We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Introduction:

Working within a development team providing design, coding, and unit testing services for Data Platform team within the Data and Analytics cluster. This group is responsible for building out a data platform that is at the heart of a multi-year, multi-million pound technology transformation programme. The group will use multiple technologies including Java , Data Warehouse and leading Cloud technologies and tools to create a data platform that consolidates data from multiple sources, transform the data models and then produce various data marts which will be hosted in a Cloud infrastructure (AWS).

This vacancy is specifically for a key technical member of the team who will be able to lead and contribute to building this data platform .

What will you be doing?

•    Leading the architecture and design process of building the data platform.
•    Ensuring all resiliency, observability, supportability, security and operational readiness requirements are met
•    Acting as a Java and Cloud SME's and point of contact and escalation for development team.
•    Contributing to the group’s data platform strategy and drive the best value from the Cloud 
•    Producing and maintaining application code, unit testing code. 
•    Produce and review development plans. 
•    Manage development issues, escalating when appropriate. 
•    Attend project meetings representing Development team. 
•    Undertake Peer reviews. 
•    Act as reference point for technical queries within Development area. 
•    Promote technical best practice. 
•    Coaching, mentoring and Quality assurance of development team.
•     A smaller percentage of the role will be providing 3rd line support for applications supported by the development team.

What we’re looking for:

•The right candidate will have the ability to translate business requirements into technical and functional designs using analysis / design skills and translate technical and functional designs into application code. They will have an in-depth knowledge of the core development technologies and tools and an excellent understanding of the deployment platform. The right candidate will be a strong team player who works with team members to engender a sense of direction and be able to provide coaching for the less experienced team members. 
Coaching and mentoring of junior team members.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
•    Personal Competencies
o    Self-driven, proactive and demonstrates initiative with strong problem solving abilities.

o    Confident and assertive in nature

•    Mandatory Technical Skills

o    Directly involved in driving a Data Mesh architecture / design 
o    Hands-on experience in design and build cloud native solutions applications using AWS S3 , Amazon Kafka MSK, EC2, ECS, EMR, Stepfunctions, Redshift 
o    Promotes an automated deployment approach through dev/ ops pipelines
o    Demonstrable working knowledge on different file formats like XML,JSON, Parquet, AVRO. 
o    Hands-on experience in developing applications using SPARK preferrably with Scala
o    Understanding of core AWS services, uses, and AWS architecture best practices with in-depth Knowledge of AWS cloud service like Compute, Network, Storage and Identity & access management.
o    Experience with event driven and real time architecture patterns, messaging and streaming technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis and AWS Managed Services for Kafka.
o    Exposure working with Data Warehousing / Big Data applications. 
o    For this senior role, we would require experience of full development lifecycle. A strong analytical mind, Strong understanding of industry standards / best practices related to Cloud, serverless technology.  

The role holder must be a strong computer scientist with a good appreciation of data structures and other fundamentals.

•    Education Qualification
o    Graduated preferably with a technology based degree

Skills that will help you in the role:

o    Java --- strongly desirable 
o    SQLserver – ability to write advanced stored procedures
o    CloudFormation, Chef, Jenkins
o    AWS Certified Developer/AWS Certified SAA would be desirable
