Join us as a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer at Barclays

where you will spearhead the development of modern digital solutions across both front‑end experiences and back‑end services. You will build and evolve scalable, resilient and secure applications, contributing hands‑on across the full SDLC — from design and development through testing, deployment and production support — embracing a “you build it, you run it” engineering mindset.

To be successful as a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer, you should have experience with:

  • Front‑end engineering using modern UI frameworks (e.g., React / Angular) with strong fundamentals in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS and responsive UI patterns

  • Back‑end engineering using Java and Spring technologies (Spring Boot, REST APIs, security patterns, integration frameworks)

  • API design and implementation, including RESTful services, versioning, security (OAuth2/JWT concepts), performance and reliability considerations

  • CI/CD and engineering toolchains, including Git-based workflows and automated build/test/deploy practices (e.g., GitLab pipelines) aligned to continuous delivery expectations.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Experience with containerised platforms such as OpenShift / Kubernetes, and understanding deployment/runtime concerns in cloud-native environments

  • Working knowledge of databases (e.g., Oracle) and data modelling/query optimisation fundamentals

  • Exposure to event-driven architectures and messaging (e.g., Kafka)

  • Experience with observability and monitoring tooling (AppDynamics, logging/tracing) and operational readiness practices

  • Strong working knowledge of JIRA and Agile delivery ceremonies and ways of working.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
